SearchEngineLand-Google AdWords 4 New Dynamic Remarketing Abilities

image.jpg

Give me a call or email me to get FREE help working with these tools! 602.456.9335 or A@AweWs.com Text below was taken from @SEngineLand article described in the video: Google AdWords Dynamic Remarketing for Retailers

When setting up a dynamic retargeting campaign, in addition to the “All visitors” list, Google automatically creates four lists that reflect four groups of site visitors:

General visitors - People who visited your website but didn’t view specific product. The dynamic ad will include the most popular products from your site.

Product viewers - People who viewed specific product pages on your site but did not add them to the shopping cart. The dynamic ad will show the products that your visitors viewed and mix in recommended products.

Shopping cart abandoners - People who added products to the shopping cart but didn’t complete the purchase. The dynamic ad will prioritize items added into the shopping cart, and will mix in a few other viewed products and recommended products.

Past buyers - People who purchased products from you in the past. The dynamic ad will show related products by looking at popular items and items commonly purchased together. To get started, you’ll can edit your existing remarketing tag if you are using one already, or you’ll need to add the dynamic remarketing tag AdWords generates for your site across all your site pages along with several custom parameters.

When people visit your site, the remarketing tag adds them to one of the remarketing list and associates the product ID with the visit. AdWords then uses the product ID to pull the product image, name, and price from your Google Merchant Center account and include in the ad. You can add additional parameters to the tag to for more advanced bidding and optimization control.

Facebook Advertising: Do You Give A Click?

image2.jpg

This morning I read two articles about Facebook advertising that didn't agree on the value Facebook advertising.Facebook Advertising The first article read like it was written by a Google employee as it explained why Facebook advertising will never work. The USA Today article, Facebook's Advertising Strategy Cannot Win goes into detail about how an honest "Like" for a random post can have significant repercussions on the ads a user is exposed to in their News Stream. Example From The Article: Facebook appears to be selling your "likes," to appear under your name on the news feeds of your friends because you have previously clicked the "like" button on a link in that site. For example, I "liked" a news story that appeared recently on CNN, because I thought some of my friends would find it equally interesting. Days afterwards, my Facebook news feed proclaimed that I "liked" the following CNN headline: "Burt Reynolds Hospitalized With Pneumonia." Excuse me, friends, I've got nothing against poor Mr. Reynolds, though his current health is not of pressing interest to me, and I never even clicked on that story anyway.

That doesn't look Like quality to me.

The second article read like it was written by Zuckerberg's BFF. The Street article, Facebook Advertising Works and Couldn't Be More Fair gives details about the same feature from the first article, but the writer's able to qualify its value to advertisers. They even gave statistics with month over month improvements. Here's a quote from the article:

  • As we have scaled into a somewhat considerable Facebook advertising push, TheStreet has seen the number of people who "Like" its page grow from about 30,000 at the end of 2012 to 45,038, as of this writing. That's an increase of roughly 50%. And the pace of this uptick continues to increase alongside our following with meaningful organic growth to boot.
  • Engagement on our Facebook page is literally through the roof. Sharing, comments and post, as well as the above-mentioned page "Likes" are all up exponentially.
  • Month-over-month (between January and February of this year), traffic from Facebook to TheStreet.com increased by 85%.
  • I used Facebook advertising a few years ago and didn't have a good experience. I didn't enjoy the UI nor the tools used to find my target audience. What do you think of Facebook advertising? Did I give up on them too soon? Should I give'em another try?

Perks Of Knowing The Weather: Tailor Your Online Advertising To The Weather

original article This morning I read an article about WeatherFIT. WeatherFIT is an application that allows you to show specific adverts depending on the weather.

Quote from the article: WeatherFIT allows you to set up an AdWords campaign to show specific adverts at specific locations depending on specific weather conditions.

For example, if you run an ecommerce site that sells air conditioning units and cooling fans you can set up an AdWords campaign to only show adverts in London when the sun is out and it's hot.

In other words your adverts would only be shown at a time when potential customers are more frequently searching for your products. The image above is the weatherFIT dashboard which is the control centre for tuning your AdWords campaigns based on real-time weather data. From here you can set which campaigns display adverts depending on weather and location. The platform allows you to include/exclude certain locations, so it's completely flexible in terms of geo-targeting. At all times you can visibly see the current status of your campaigns and keep track of what is happening. If you owned a general store in Southern California and it rained (which it never does, if you don't believe me ask Tony, Toni, Toné), you could set-up your AdWords account to show ads for umbrellas or ads for books/DVDs. By the way, Perks Of Being A Wallflower would be great on a rainy day. I watched it before reading the article I'm supposed to be writing about.

I wonder if the weather would have an effect on the sale of shoes. I ask because I know this cool boutique shoe store called Brooklynn's Shoes in Downtown Phoenix at CityScape Phoenix that gets lots of foot traffic when the sun is out, but not so much when the clouds cover. I'm going to pitch the idea to them. I have a few $100 Google Ad Credits that we could utilize to test out the experiment.

The 3 Worst Ways Companies Waste Money in Social Media

    Screen-shot-2012-11-25-at-8.15.18-PM.png

The 3 Worst Ways Companies Waste Money in Social Media This was an awesome article about the 3 worst ways companies utilize their resources for social media. It's a conversation I had with my brother over the summer. We're working on a building a brand for Global Unconquerable Group (GUG). The GUG is an entertainment and gaming company whose first venture is a trading card game. He wanted a Facebook page for each of the characters and the corporation. I felt this was too much considering you can't sell anything through Facebook (only provide links to store) and Facebook won't allow you to export the information about the followers of your pages. The article link below discusses those points and that email marketing is a much more effective medium to generate revenue.

I came across this article about a week after I had a meeting with a liquor distributor in the Phoenix area about a job opening they had in their marketing department for a dedicated social media person. It's a great opportunity and a job I really wanted. I lots of questions for them. They had few answers. Which was awesome because that meant there would be plenty of freedom to initiate tactics that I didn't have the budget to utilize for my brother's company.

Good article. Please read this before you spend any money on social media. Link To Original Article

    Facebook Launches Conversion Measurement Tool

    Screen-shot-2012-11-25-at-6.55.57-PM.png

Tonight I decided to go through my "Reading List" in my Safari iPad app and came across an article about Facebook launching a conversion measurement tool to help advertisers attribute online sales to Facebook ads. One would assume that this tool would have been part of one of the early iterations of Facebook ads. Facebook has offered advertising to marketers since 2004 and in 2012 this tool still isn't available to all marketers. I rarely recommend Facebook ads to AwesomeWebStore clients because of this and other reasons. AwesomeWebStore doesn't believe in its targeting tools and AwesomeWebStore likes to know when their ads deliver results because their clients like to know when the ads deliver results. Our fees are based on results. Third parties like Glimpse have offered solutions to this problem for quite a while. Why hasn't Facebook felt a need to deliver this to marketers? It's their system and their social network. Google has the ability to place ads on Facebook and has a conversion tracking tool that allows marketers to track conversions on the ads placed on Facebook. It's one of the reasons that I utilize Google AdWords more than any other advertising tool. This article made me wonder what other holes are their in the Facebook product offering. It's a great place to promote your product/service. Do you use it to advertise?

If so, why do you like it? What don't you like about it?
